Behavior

“Behavior means the way of acting. Behavior is 'the actions or reactions of persons or things under given circumstances.' Behavior means 'conduct, actions bearing, comportment'. Everything in the way you or I, or our dogs, appear to one another is behavior.”

“Dog Language” by Roger Abrantes

While we are not scientists in the true sense, we are, each of us, engaged in the study of canine (and human) behavior in our daily interactions with dogs. But much of what we do has Team Work become a habit or pattern of behavior. Our very human nature can be a detriment to our relationship with our dogs. If the pattern of behavior between you and your dog is creating conflict in your home, it's time for a change.

Most common problems that people have with dogs are due to a lack of understanding by the humans, coupled with a lack of effective communication between human and dog. This lack of communication often creates a great deal of stress and leads to ever-increasing problems. Learning to understand what motivates and concerns your dog, and effectively communicating with him, is essential to Paws Up a harmonious relationship. Dogs are boldly honest creatures and if we are willing to listen to them, they can teach us a great deal.

At The Pawsitive Dog, LLC we are combining many years of practical experience and a solid foundation in the principles of classical and operant conditioning with a well cultivated sensitivity to the nature of dogs and people. This allows us a great deal of flexibility when addressing the needs of our clients and their dogs. Our integrated approach will address any training issues you may have, but will also help you to better understand and communicate with your dog. We will teach you the skills you need to confidently and compassionately educate your dog.

Our training methods are completely force free and can be safely used by the whole family. With appropriate client follow-through, most situations show significant improvement in three to five consultation sessions. Issues involving fear or aggression are often more complex and may take longer to resolve.
